Who We Are:

Niagara Shrine Club

The Niagara Peninsula Shrine Club consisted of the three clubs in the Niagara region originated in 1947. In 1955 the Niagara Shrine Club was formed after Shriners in St Catharines and Pt Colborne/Welland decided to start their own clubs.

We meet at our club building purchased in 1980 by a group of 10 Shriners who formed the Niagara Ten Club Inc. as a holding company. Rameses Shriners granted permission to hold our Shrine meetings here.

History of the Shriners

Shriners International is, at its most basic level, a fraternity.

It all started in Manhattan in 1870 when some members of what’s considered the world’s oldest fraternity – Masonry – were hanging out at their favorite tavern. They felt that Masonry, which traces its roots to stonemasons and craftsmen of the Middle Ages, was a tad too focused on ritual. These guys wanted a fraternity that stressed fun and fellowship.

Shriners Hospitals for Children was founded in 1922 with the goal of providing expert medical care for children with no financial burden to the patients or their families.

Many of the treatments used as standard practice in burn centers across the country today originated within Shriners Hospitals for Children.

There are almost 200 temples (chapters) in several countries and thousands of clubs around
the world!

There are 22 Shriners Hospitals across the U.S., Canada and Mexico

The modern man who wears the iconic red fez is a man who values philanthropy, brotherhood, family and of course – fun.

Shriners are considered on of the oldest fraternities in the world, founded in 1870
